Teaching Points
In groups the children could do a whole class project on various aspects of the Emperor Penguin. This could be split up into the following sections, life, food, young penguins, where they live and food penguins eat. The flip chart above is an introductory lesson on the Emperor Penguin. Skype in the classroom is a brilliant resource to bring to the classroom. The session takes place in Antarctica and is really brings the concept to life. The children could design postcards and send them to Antarctica. This could be done as part of an English lesson. The children could make paper machie penguins and attach a piece of information about the Emperor, or create clay Penguins. There are also other species of Penguin such as the Adélie penguin which the children could become familiar with and draw contrasts and comparisons. Also included is a game which is a good stimulator to introduce the topic. Curriculum Linkage English, Science, Geography, History, Art |
